Bornay Aerogeneradores has been providing different mini wind turbines for the Juan Carlos I Antarctic Base since the early 80’s.

For more than 36 years we have supplied different wind turbines and equipment and also have provided answers and technical assistance in order to improve the products, which year after year support all kinds of inclement meteorological conditions. This is the case even during the long winters when the Base is closed but the wind turbines must continue to operate in order to maintain the scientific equipment which functions all year long.

At the present time the Juan Carlos I Antarctic Base has two Bornay wind turbines, one a Bornay 3000 and the other a Bornay 6000.

Both turbines work at a tension of 48 volts, charging the stationary Gel batteries which are installed in special containers to keep the electrolyte from freezing.

There is no questioning the extreme conditions that the equipment in this location must withstand and the undoubted robustness and quality of the wind turbines, which season after season, and always with the proper maintenance, provide the base with auxiliary power.
