Moving forward since 1970

Every since my youth, I have been driven
by the idea of generating electricity through
the power of the wind.
Juan Bornay
Since 1970, Bornay has been constantly moving forward. Adapting to changes. Opening up to the world. Installing more than 4000 windturbines in more than 50 countries.
After four decades of constant evolution, Bornay has now become one of the leading international names in manufacture of small-scale windturbines, and this is because it knows how to blend technology, innovation, international market openings, serial production, and made-to-measure project solutions, combining diverse clean sources for energy self-sufficiency to supply electricity grids and contribute to distributed generation.
Harnessing the power of the wind and providing the world with clean energy solutions to boost the sustainability of the planet are still the firm's main motivations.
Bornay's origins go back to Juan Bornay's urge to produce electricity from wind power and get it to places without power. In a small auto electrics garage and lathe workshop, Juan Bornay began work on developing small windturbines in 1970 with one great hope: to supply his grandparents' house with electricity.
From this very personally motivated achievement, his first customers arrived: friends and acquaintances who needed to get electricity in their second homes way outside the town. Initially, this meant personalised, made-to-measure installations. Then processes for manufacturing the first wind turbines started to take shape, based initially on modified auto alternators, mechanical couplings, and hand-made wooden propellor blades.
Things took off
The decade of the eighties brought the consolidation of Bornay. The first exports came in: USA, Angola, the Dominican Republic, Japan. And serial production began for the G200W windturbine. Today, Bornay has serial production of 5 models right up to 6 Kw nominal power: Bornay 600, 1500, 3000, and 6000, as well as a range of complementary products that mean energy from clean sources and with the greatest guarantees.
Right from the start, Bornay has married the aim of satisfying customer needs with the development of new product to meet demand. And the same effort and attention goes into working with absolute discipline. The fruit of this: few firms in the industry have an ISO 9001 quality certificate.
Challenges have moulded Bornay's character as a pioneer, business leader, and innovator - from the installation of a Bornay in Antarctica - standing up to the toughest conditions thanks to great sturdiness and reliability - to getting electricity and water to tiny villages in Tanzania, Mauritania, and Sri Lanka.
In an international context concerned about energy sustainability, Bornay represents a genuine guarantee, aiming to provide renewable solutions and attracting the industry's best professionals to continue evolving and to join the Bornay experience.
